Research on Incubation and Innovation Ecosystem of India

This study is an on ground understanding and assessment of surati ilab which is one of projects undertaken by the surat smart city under the smart city mission to foster urban innovations in the city and nearby regions. Innovations in urban services is the need of the hour looking at the complexities of city management arising as a consequence of urbanisation in India. Innovative solutions are required to meet out complex challenges in service delivery in different sectors like water, waste, health, transport etc. This study has attempted to look at surati ilab from the innovation ecosystem point of view considering different stakeholders, and identifying the drivers and barriers towards institutionalizing the concept of ilab within other smart cities of India. A primary research was conducted along with stakeholder consultation to understand the current level of outcome realisation and how it can be evolved further to attain the larger objectives of urban problem solving, start up and innovations along with creation of employment opportunities.
