ENHANCING URBAN GOVERNANCE: SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

Himatnagar is a class II town in the Sabarkantha district of Gujarat, India. It serves as the district's administrative headquarters. The city has grown up alongside the Hathmati River. This studio project aims to improve the city's municipal solid waste management system. Even though the city still has issues with waste segregation, collection, transportation, processing, and disposal, the city recently won first place in Gujarat's Swachh Survekshan competition for cities with populations under one lakh. Assessment of the existing scenarios, policies, benchmarking of best practices, case studies from different cities, and stakeholder interaction were done to understand the current state of MSWM in Himatnagar. Further analyzing the areas of improvement, a business model was proposed to improve the city's dry waste management.
