Inequalities in quality of housing and basic infrastructure among the Urban fringe communities.

As cities grow and urban population spills over in the fringe areas, we see a distinct pattern of urban development emerging, where the old and the new communities are spatially in same geographic and administrative areas, governed by same regulations and laws but there is a visible disparity in their access to quality of housing and infrastructure. This disparity maybe of various levels and linked to multiple socio-economic factors, spatial conditions, access conditions, behavioral conditions, and others. The state and central government through multiple policies and missions have set out to remove the disparity and achieve the targets of housing for all (including the basic services). However, still a large population in urban fringe communities do not have access to quality housing and basic infrastructure services.
This research proposes to understand the levels of inequalities, the reasons thereof among various urban fringe communities and improve their access to quality housing and basic infrastructure.
