Identifying and testing the indicators to measure shared value created through urban development projects in Indian cities

The various players involved in development and management of built-environment in our cities continue to refine development practices to integrate value creation as designing objectives. The Smart city initiative has helped many cities achieve their infrastructure development targets which have indirectly impacted several areas including environment or employment generation. But as urbanization increases, cities are challenged to constantly develop sustainable strategies for managing the demands while generating constant inflow of revenues and resources. ‘City management however continues to happen in silos’, hence urban value creation needs to align with the objective of improving liveability and sustainability. There is an urgent need to map and demonstrate how the urban development projects continue to create value at various scales and the research is aimed at creating a framework for identifying and assessing tangible aspects of value creation which can inform the cost & benefit matrix for stakeholders.
