Open Space In Udaipur City : Past, Present & Future

Open spaces have been a point of great concern in the present day due to issue in climate change, increase in pollution, groundwater depletion and other environmental concerns. Further due to the COVID 19 pandemic the significance of open spaces has increased to a great extent. This research will begin with case studies to understand the evolution of green spaces and how a blue green network can be developed for cities of similar scale. The topic will then be detailed out for Udaipur known as the city of lakes. As the city has been of historic importance the evolution of green spaces in past (i.e. before independence) and present (After Independence) i.e. actions taken by ULB’s to develop green spaces will be further studied. It will also talk in detail about the application of statutory framework for open spaces and how it is incorporated in the master plan. Subsequently the students will develop basemap of the city identifying the areas to create green blue network for which they will travel to the cities and do surveys and stakeholder consultations. Using tools like GIS etc, the students will develop the existing plans along with the appropriate locations for new proposals as per the analysis to develop the blue green network.
