Parking regulations and measures at local level to facilitate electric mobility

Since the launch of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) by the Government of India in the year 2013, e-mobility has gained significant thrust both at the national and state level. 15 Indian states have either notified or drafted state electric vehicle (EV) policies between 2017 and 2015. These policies focus on demand incentives (subsidies, tax exemptions, etc.), charging infrastructure incentives (capital subsidies, land allocation concessions, etc.) and industry incentives (promotion subsidies and land and infrastructure incentives). The national and state level policies have helped increase the adoption of EVs in the country; yet the rate of adoption is still slow. There is a policy and funding impetus towards public vehicles, and transition targets in private vehicles though high, realization is quite low. To facilitate electric vehicle uptake, favourable local level policies, regulations and parking and charging infrastructure would be necessary.
