Towards achieving the Roadmap to Urban Resilience- SURAT

The studio structure allowed an exploratory approach to preparing a Development Plan for the city of Surat. With our intensive research and analysis, we arrived at a resilience-based approach for development regulation rather than following the conventional rule-based approach which is common in building bye-laws in most cities. With this, we propose cities/ development authorities identify problems faced by their city/ development area and formulate regulations accordingly, focusing on the built environment and urban life of the people, thereby focusing on the SDGs. We intend to propose an adaptive management-based approach guided by a target/vision, that is diversified and open for renewal, where the policymaker, experts, and stakeholders are involved in the process of model building for the city to become integrated, flexible, and resilient.
