Urban Design Factors impacting Universal Thermal Comfort Index: A Case study of Ahmedabad

The evaluation of the outdoor thermal environment can assist us in predicting changes in outdoor thermal conditions that have a beneficial impact on the usage of urban outdoor areas. Two case areas selected for this in Ahmedabad on Sabarmati River Front, one without tree and a garden area, to understand influence of urban geometry. Universal Thermal Climate Index, which represents the heat stress of the human organism caused by meteorological conditions, was used as an indicator of thermal comfort in the study. Further this research can be used to establish a link between urban planning/geometry and the consequent outdoor thermal environment which can help us enhance the space accordingly.
