Data driven performance evaluation of DX split air conditioning systems.

The worldwide market for split air conditioners is expected to grow at a remarkable annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 4.3%, reaching around $178 billion by 2026. In India BEE launched the star labelling of air conditioners in 2007 and the Indian seasonal energy efficiency ratio (ISEER) bands for star labelling are currently revised every 2 years. As room air conditioners (RAC) are the go-to mode of air-conditioning accessible to the common man, The study focuses on 135 typical split air conditioners in the CEPT university campus ranging from 1.5 TR to 2 TR and evaluates their performance based on a data set of 20 instantaneous measurements over a period of one year. Also 10 units are continuously logged 24x7 to generate a robust data set and generate the performance curves of the units and the gap in performance of the units with the manufacturer rated performance is evaluated. Performance in terms of COP is to be analyzed with the other measured parameters like outdoor conditions and counter measures to reduce the gap in performance are to be drawn from this study.
