Comparison of recovery of two cities from the pandemic: Strategies and revival capacity

The number of new cases, recovery rate and the casualties due to the pandemic in the last year have varied across different cities and could be effectively mapped using GIS. The management strategies adopted by the community and the local governments need to be documented for the best practices in handling the crisis. It would therefore be interesting to analyze and compare the statistics and strategies adopted for two cities, say Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
In addition, the pandemic made an epochal change to the common man’s lifestyle. Work from home options, flexi work hours for professionals, online classes and examination for the students, online banking and shopping, home deliveries, surge in private travel mode emerged as the new lifestyle changes. Personal interaction too has taken a back seat. The futility of spending time and energy in home-work-home trips and shopping malls hit hard.
Further, the need for compulsorily wearing masks, social distancing and compulsory isolation in case of infection, along with medical assistance of a different kind, has significantly necessitated different design norms. Beginning with hospitals, home and community designs are likely to undergo a cascade impact on the urban form in the times to come.
A study thereof is hence proposed using the statistics and strategies for these two cities.
