CUSTOMIZATION OF CITYGML FOR LOCALLY CHARACTERIZED URBAN OBJECTS IN A 3-D CITY MODEL

3D city models have been widely used in various applications such as urban planning, traffic
control, disaster management etc. 3D city models make it easier to plan and visualise the
spatial properties of urban objects. Efficient visualization of 3D city models in different levels
of detail (LODs) is one of the pivotal technologies to support these applications. CityGML, an
OGC standard to represent 3D city models is used to integrate geometric and semantic
information of the city. The rendering of the surface textures, architecture, materials, objects
specific reference to Indian socio-cultural and climatic condition is yet missing and needs to
be developed.
This DRP proposes to prepare locally popular urban built features in the 3D city models with
respect to Indian context. A visual similarity may be assessed using size, colour, height etc
with the original models.
The research questions are:
2
1. How to define new features and relations with respect to CityGML with Indian
perspective?
2. How to assess the visual quality of generalised 3D city models?
