Using Passive Strategies to Optimize a Building Envelope

To understand basics of engineering sustainability, We analyzed our own home and determined how the dwelling is affected by its surroundings, orientation, climatic conditions, openings and shading element sizes and how much energy it is consuming. After this analysis, Dwelling was then isolated from its surroundings, this isolated dwelling became our base case and then we iterated and proposed different interventions such as changing the orientation of building, optimizing window and shading sizes, natural ventilation, insulation of walls and roofs etc, to reduce cooling loads and reduce energy consumption of the building.
