HVAC LAB

The HVAC Lab gives a conceptual and hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning in the perspective of energy efficiency, performance, and thermal comfort. We were introduced to standards such as ASHRAE 62.1, and a variety of instrument manuals. To better comprehend topics like as infiltration, particulate matter, and air tightness, experiments such as tracer gas, PM concentration measurement, and Blower Door were carried out. The first half of the semester ended with an Energy Recovery Ventilation testing protocol. We applied the principles we learned in the first half to simulate an ECBC compliant building  to optimize the system to reduce the energy performance index while maintaining comfort.
