Introducing the work one has produced in the studio requires that the writer take a step back, to move from exercise guidelines to a point where they are able articulate why they composed an assemblage in a particular way, why they chose a specific way of representing how an object work, how multiple choices and details come together to make the final sheet. Moving from doing something because one is told to, to claiming it as one’s own, and being able to guide a viewer through engaging with the work is at the core of the exercise.
The brevity of the text allows writers at the beginning of their engagement with the process to pay close attention to choices regarding the selection of content that needs to be captured, regarding ways of guiding the viewer through engaging with the work, making the text invite a closer look at the work through language that is jargon-free and syntax that makes the reasoning and movement explicit.
