Circular economy as a concept for zero waste in the city is gaining momentum and waste is looked like an asset that can generate revenue for the city, rather than just being an obnoxious sight to be disposed of. Many techniques from recycling, composing, incineration and disposal are available in the increasing order of their GHG emissions and carbon footprint. The project focuses on the decentralizing waste processing techniques. It is a feasibility study that looks at the risks and current issues facing Rajkot in terms of waste processing and proposes a revenue positive outcome that suits the context of the city. The feasibility consists of technical, financial, social and environmental aspects. Multiple technologies and financial model are studied based on the scalability, cost-effectiveness, and workability parameters. The study ends with appraising bio-methanation as a suiting technology for West zone of Rajkot for the next ten years to manage its Wet Waste decentralized and proposes various mechanism to make it work.
