Demystifying the suburbia: A case of South Bopal

The portfolio gives a thorough examination of a one-square-kilometer of South Bopal suburbia. South Bopal, also known as SOBO of Ahmedabad, is located on the western outskirts of the city, close to the municipal boundary of Ahmedabad. Today, the precinct has a distinct character that has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. The precinct is an amalgamation of a variety of land uses, with residential as prominent landuse. The recent developments have resulted in a residential area with high compound wall structures which has resulted in emptier streets and vanishing public realm. Other components such as transportation connections, solid waste management, water supply and demand, and so on have also been examined.
