Over the last few decades, the huge development expansion in Indian cities has generated numerous environmental issues, including pollution, heat islands, and the deterioration of green areas and natural flora, leaving the cities neglected. The construction industry is projected to focus on enhancing the living environment and quality of life in buildings. Although limited buildings have been designated green, there are opportunities to strengthen key technologies to achieve green development. ‘Water, energy, and material efficiency are highlighted in the green design building.’ It improves building design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal to reduce the impact of buildings on people's health and the environment. The reviewed literature of India talks a lot about the benefits of green buildings, but only 11,000+ green building projects are registered in India's total project approvals, which is a modest number. Since the number of green buildings is still limited, we must promote them as enablers of sustainable growth. The current report uses qualitative and quantitative research approaches to identify barriers and drivers of green building projects in Ahmedabad. A literature review and a semi-structured questionnaire survey are used to achieve the study's goals. The study includes secondary data from a literature review, local and national data from expert and administration sources, and primary data through questionnaires. Discover and evaluate green building choices for the city by examining the numerous characteristics and strategies provided by various rating organizations in Ahmedabad and Indian scenarios for the city's future sustainable development. The conclusions indicated that the most significant barriers to the green building movement in Ahmedabad are a lack of guidelines, incentives, and knowledge of green building among building tenants. This considerable difficulty leads to additional issues, including time-consuming implementation, a lack of knowledge, irresponsibility, and an unwillingness to adopt a new green lifestyle. Finally, the acceptable outcome of the green building movement in Ahmedabad can only be achieved through widespread publicity & integrating of all the stakeholders' perceptions, participation & partnership in the construction sector.
