Interlinkages between public spaces, urban mobility and urban form through a living labs approach and testing the transferability of urban interventions from Latin America to one or two selected case study cities in South Asia
Number of recent growth spurs in cities have led to unorganized growth and issues such as access to decent housing, reduction of public spaces, deteriorating urban infrastructure, worsening pollution and traffic congestion. City administrations are making efforts to promote strategies for urban renewal (e.g. through smart cities) and retrofitting focused on improving quality of lives in the city with help of citizen participation. Yet, more effort is required in understanding the root cause of many of the issues. The use of the available space and how it is planned plays a critical role on how the urban fabric is going to evolve in the coming years. This is particularly relevant in the case of urban renewal efforts. Public spaces can act as a pivot to urban upgradation, by becoming interventions that connect neighbourhoods, community infrastructure, including mobility.
