Comparative Assessment of Electric Bus Operations in Indian Cities - Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune.
Transport is one of the major contributors to GHG emissions. Electric mobility is considered among the Shift and Improve strategy of EASI (Enable, Avoid, Shift and Improve) framework for the climate change mitigation. Government of India has made the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) in 2013 followed by Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) India phase I and II Schemes to enhance electric mobility and E-Buses are one among them. Indian cities have responded differently to the E-Bus procurement and operations, thereby imperative to assess the performance of the E-Bus systems in various cities. The DRP attempts to create a comparative assessment of electric bus operations in Indian cities of Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. The project is expected to pave way for better understanding of the E-Bus operational strategy and efficiency for other cities. The learnings from the case cities shall articulate the derived decisions taken and its impacts. The DRP will also provide inputs to the policy and programs related to E-Bus deployment and operations.
