Parking is emerging as a major challenge in urban areas in India and if the current trends follow, it will continue to be a major issue as land is a scare resource in cities. More recently, cities have started focusing on preparing parking policies which include various parking regulations and pricing measures. In Ahmedabad, measures like controlled on-street parking and parking charges have been introduced on some major corridors in the city. Parking regulations and pricing are expected to influence user behaviour by diversion of trips to off-peak hours, reducing travel by private mode, shift to NMT or public transport modes and even impacting vehicle ownership. Parking policy formulation requires that likely impacts are well understood. This research therefore aims to analyse the impact of such measures on user behaviour and their travel patterns in Ahmedabad.
