Safety Risk Assessment for Bus Transport Organization
In 2018 a World Health Organization Report highlighted that India ranked 1st in the number of road accident deaths among 199 countries (World Health Organization, 2018). India reported more than 4,67,000 motor vehicle accidents that year (Joshi, 2018). As the country’s GDP and purchasing power grows and an increasing share of the population becomes more mobile, these figures are only going to increase. Public transport is considered to be a safe mode of travel; however safety is a critical issue from the perspective of operators and the uses of the system due to the relevant implications it generates. In case of India buses account to 6.9% of fatalities and 9.1 % of serious injuries. Therefore, evaluating the safety and security provides an opportunity to improve the safety performance of transit operators and in turn making public transport attractive mode for the users.
