Mangrove-based Fish Farming

A community-based programme that promotes aquaculture production in barren Khazans through the utilisation of mangroves. This project aims to re-establish the livelihoods of local fishermen who previously risked their lives by fishing in the ocean due to a lack of suitable locations. By creatively repurposing abandoned paddy fields, incorporating brackish water, and cultivating essential mangrove species like Rhizophora, Avicennia alba/officinalis, and Acanthus ilicifolius, the programme aims to restore both economic opportunities for traditional fishermen and the coastal ecosystem. Implementing an adequate water management system, supporting pisciculture, and integrating the community in mangrove conservation are all critical components.
