Expeditions into Metals and Plastics

The design of products, to meet the demands of built spaces is challenging. The products have to meet the needs of lifestyle as well as technology changes. The studio will introduce a design process that leads to solutions in various domains such as work, home and others. The studio modules will enhance the experience of the students by exploring the properties of ferrous metals, nonferrous metals, thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics, and finding opportunities to use these in their design with methods (processes). The design process will emphasise on honing skills of working with materials w.r.t. form, structure and function. They will be required to present their individual exploration and manipulations of materials and methods to express a visual response to a theme or content.
