Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh has multiple parks in each sector, however these parks are not used to their fullest potential due to the lack of certain spatial and social characteristics. This project re imagines the park in sector 35, to meet certain requirements which were understood post the analysis of the movement mapping. It was understood that women, in order to exhibit leisure and gain a sense of ownership, required more formalized spaces, less barren boundary edges and isolated corners, a path exclusive to non-motorized transportation and community spaces that enhanced their public experience. Through Jane Jacob’s writing, it was also learnt that an active set of eyes that supervised public spaces increased its safety. Lastly, through Vienna’s strategy in ‘Fair Shared City’, the importance of the scale and fragmentation of public spaces was understood. Strategies and interventions drawn from these learnings re imagines the park to become a leisure-hub “Where Stree Can Be”.
