Evolution and Urban Dynamics of Hansol

Hansol is a residential neighborhood located east of Ahmedabad, within the proximity of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Over the years, Hansol Village transformed from an urban area to an urbanized suburb. It attracted migrants making the Sindhi community predominant in the area. Town planning schemes, road networks played an important role in its growth, which started build typology transformation from semi-detached to apartments and flourishing of commercial areas along the major roads. Building typologies influenced Hansol’s vitality, the presence of low-rise, semi-detached housing enhanced active street facades and commercial activities. Hansol’s transformation is multifaceted and influenced by different factors.
