Decoding the Urban Morphology of Ambikanagar

Ambikanagar is a partly residential and partly industrial area located on the eastern periphery of Ahmedabad. Located 13 km from the city centre , the area is accessed via the Odhav main road. The aim of this portfolio is to decode the urban fabric of Ambikanagar through a layer based approach and to understand the factors that shape it. For the study, a 1 sq.km sample area (called a precinct) has been chosen. The urban fabric is a composition of four layers namely, the streets, the plots, the buildings and the people occupying the area. This portfolio incorporates the study of the historical evolution of the precinct, its present street network, the land use and associated built form and how these facets interplay and affect the lives of the residents living in the area.
