Greenbelt's Transformative effect on Karmchari Nagar

Being a major residential area for government employees, the Karmachari nagar area is named after that. It is located on the western side of Sabarmati river of Ahmedabad. This area comprises various housing societies from the private and public sector. The green belt which was proposed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in 1965 to curb urban sprawl and serve as the city's green lungs. However, the green belt initiative faced several challenges and ultimately gave way to evolving land use patterns which resulted in dominance of residential use.
