TEMPORAL CHANGE IN FOREST COVER OF SANCTUARIES

The development of all living beings primarily depends on basic components like oxygen, water, food, shelter. Trees are one of the sources which fulfill all the requirements.  Also, it acts as an important element in controlling climate change.  Hence, its current proportion in terms of both quantity and quality is required to be monitored in order to better conserve and protect it. Using remote sensing and GIS technology. the analysis has been carried out for the forest cover of the sanctuaries. The present study shows the decadal change (in area) of the forest cover and factors responsible for the change.

Aim and Objectives of the study

The sanctuaries where shortlisted based on certain criteria. Further, the study was carried on 2 sanctuaries.

The methodology followed to carry out the study

Here, the False Color Composite showing band composition for the selected sanctuaries is shown. The Land Use Land Cover classes for the particular sanctuary was assigned on the FCC. The step-2 shows the pixel color of the particular LULC class

The Land Use Land Cover map is showing the different classes and the area under different class

The change detection map shows the decadal change in the classes highlighted the major change

The LULC map for the Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary and the area under different LULC classes are shown

The change detection for 2 decades has been shown through map

The comparative analysis for both the sanctuaries has been done and the conclusion derived from the study has been stated.
