The Passive Comfort Lab enabled learnings from Building Physics concepts like Climate, Solar Geometry, Heat Transfer, Measurement and experimentation, Psychrometry, and Natural Ventilation to optimize building envelopes and improve energy efficiency. The concepts learned were put into practice in the Course Project- Ice-Box Challenge. The objective was to design an enclosure that would be a scaled model of a house to store ice, subjected to outdoor conditions. The box envelope was designed to minimize heat gains from Conduction, Convection, and radiation. The simulation module helped in analyzing heat interactions in a building through the Envelope and its effect on Energy Loads.
