The research was aimed at understanding the qualities of Indian Streets that make them so captivating. Indian streets are well-known social spaces, but it identified that the unique character of Indian streets is mainly located in the in-between threshold interface between public and private areas. The research thus aimed to explore this aspect by analyzing five streetscapes in Ahmedabad and focusing on the in-between spaces that are crucial for understanding the spatial character that Indian streets offer. To better understand how people interact with and use these spaces, parameters were derived from the literature reviews which formed a framework for analysis. This framework provided parameters for examining the character spaces and evaluating their significance in the context of Indian cities. The research studies the streetscapes through the lens of the urban threshold spaces to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of Indian streets.
