The aim of the study is to establish a correlation between the roof forms and spatial organization in contemporary residential architecture in Kerala. The objectives of the study include understanding the possible variations in each roof form, documenting the different possibilities of spatial organization for each sloping roof type, and deriving a set of correlations between sloping roofs and spatial organization. The roof plays an important role in creating character and style in a building, and its meaning has evolved over time. The variations and possibilities of the roof offer architects the opportunity to express their artistic style while also providing functional benefits such as demarcating private and public spaces and defining interior limits. Different roof types, such as onion-shaped roofs in mosques or pitched roofs in warm humid climates, also reflect the local climatic conditions.
