Suspended Chaos

As soon as the refugees found the mosque they were overwhelmed by the majestic forest of columns.  They started spreading out within this forest making humble ‘clearings’ for themselves. The maze like formation creates a world within a world, protected by the multiple layers of fabric. Any strangers would get lost amongst the columns and the illusive translucency created by the fabric. The plan is intrinsically the dance of a singular line around and amongst the columns where a bend defines a space and the negative of that bend defines a space for the adjacent unit. The cylinders enclose the user, hiding the columns from view creating a simpler, and more peaceful view, enclosing them in a safe cool cocoon.

Plan at level 3m. Like a buzy termite’s nest the built is filled with Tinkerers woring on their various projects and experiments. Some are having their daily exchange with the Scavengers while others are in their most layered sacred spot in the right hand side top corner discussing the latest project that is being kept a secret from others.

Sectional perspective showing fabric funnels in the profile of the dome, rising and falling according to the activities below.

The further the layers engulf one the more they feel at home and at peace. A thin insignificant layer of fabric is enough to isolate one from the world
