Shopping is changing radically in response to impacts of ambient internet access technologies. If shoppers’ take the trouble to visit shops rather than clicking on-line, they expect stimulating experiences beyond wall-to-wall product displays. Cutting edge retail design is about providing these new experiences. The Beyond Detail Studio explored the issue of creating emotionally immersive retail space at every stage in the process and at every scale from the overall design to the smallest detail. Particular attention was given to crafting the immaculate details essential to delivering the quality of retail experience now required. The studio worked in three stages • Research: Following the selection and study of and existing luxury brand students developed their own unique brand. • Design: The values and characteristics of this new brand was then translated into a concept design of a 75m2 retail space. • Detail: Finally, the design was developed in detail. Plans, sections and elevations of all parts of the design were prepared in the form of technical construction drawings taking into consideration the use of technologies, materials, junctions and finishes.
