ReCera: For Teens

Recera: for teens offers teenagers the opportunity to learn ceramic modelling and escape reality by picking a book or listening to a podcast in the reading lounge. Teenagers of today are interwoven from a variety of backgrounds, making them a diverse group. Taking this concept of ‘interwoven’ ahead metaphorically, the attempt has been to create overlapping spaces where group activities are performed as well as stand-alone spaces where teens can have some alone time. While locating the reading room on the mezzanine isolates it for the activity, it also provides a vantage point for teens to overlook and interact with the entrance space below. The concept is also reflected in the movement between indoor and outdoor spaces, the openings that connect these and the gradient of colors used. A combination of shapes, ranging from arched doors, windows and seating niches to hexagonal shaped floor seating in the reading space, are interwoven to make the space one. In terms of material and texture, the grey matte finished tiles with lime washed textured walls are stitched together with wooden furniture and indoor plants. Overall, the space aims at becoming an after-school teenager hotspot which is not only preferred for the activities it offers but also the ambience it creates.
