Re-imagining Manek Chowk Road

The project follows designing a street in the Old City of Ahmedabad that experiences activity from vendors, pedestrians, vehicular movement, and local residents throughout the day. Its direct connections to heritage buildings like Jami Mosque, Rani no Hajiro, Fruit Market, and Manek Chowk Food Market are the center of major visitor flow and significant vendor-to-costumer interaction through the busy market and activity-based environment. Various temporary vendors selling fruits and vegetables and other goods are spread across the site occupying empty spaces with little to no access to amenities like shade, sitting space, drinking water supply, public toilets, etc. Varying street widths at different junctions create bottlenecks further causing traffic, congestion, and slow movement.
