Rapid urbanization & over-consumption in Chennai has resulted in the obscurity of blue and green infrastructure, culminating in a sharp reduction in resource availability. Water resource depletion and increased water demand have restricted the ability to supplement the water supply today and in the future. Climate change may worsen the scenario further by increasing the unpredictability of extreme weather events negatively impacting the available freshwater supply sources. As per primary survey findings, the brunt of this is faced by the fishermen community living along the coast of Chennai. Although, they were the city’s original inhabitants, now lie at the tail-end of the water supply system but at the front line of facing climate change risks.
