Rain water harvesting at a decentralised level in urban areas has many benefits, which include increasing water availability, improving water quality, reducing urban flooding among others. The General Development Control Regulations (GDCR) also provides guidelines on provision of rainwater harvesting structures based on the built up area range. New construction does not get approved without RRWH implementation. Further, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has recently announced that the corporation will cover 80% costs of constructing percolation wells in residential areas. Yet there is a huge gap in implementing rainwater harvesting structures at scale in the city of Ahmedabad.
