This study aims to assess the performance of public toilet (PT) infrastructure for the pilgrim city of Pushkar, Rajasthan. A literature review of public toilet policies, guidelines, initiatives, and programs in India was presented to evaluate the performance of all 25 PTs in the city. Recommendations were provided to address key issues pertaining to operations, maintenance, and cost recovery. The study also proposes an improved dashboard-based monitoring strategy and a star rating mechanism to encourage improved sanitation standards. Overall, the study emphasizes the need for improved public toilet infrastructure and management in tourist cities like Pushkar with practical recommendations that can be used to improve the overall situation.
