Public transport accessibility and its application to urban plan making

Public transport (PT) is one of the key infrastructure systems in a city. Usually, efficient function PT systems are associated with benefits such as reduction in environmental pollution, reduction in road congestion, travel time savings, appreciation in land values and boost in the local economy, and social equity in mobility. In addition, well-planned PT systems can also guide future urban development, especially transit-oriented development.
Measuring and mapping the existing levels of public transport accessibility and creating future PT and urban development scenarios that are in sync with the development/master plan would be an important step in making our cities more efficient, sustainable, and livable.
