Located in an arid bio-geographical zone with a harsh climate, Ahmedabad has been facing freshwater scarcity across different land-use types, while green spaces and green cover are necessary. This combination of factors requires wise decisions in planning, design, and building to achieve the dual aim of sustainable resource use and biodiversity conservation. Within this context, the thesis assesses green spaces, designed and natural, in the newly developing parts of south-west Ahmedabad to propose sustainable planting and greening recommendations in times of severe resource depletion.This research aims to influence greening practices in Urban Design by justifying the importance of native flora, making native flora and biodiversity stronger considerations in the design of green spaces in Ahmedabad.
