This study explores the feasibility of adopting electric auto-rickshaws in Surat, which is India's eighth and Gujarat's second most populous city. The findings from the existing situation analysis and willingness surveys show that the city is now prepared to adopt electric IPT. The economic advantages of electrification are of interest to the government, while the operators are more concerned with the financial advantages. It is suggested that the ecosystem requirements of the electric auto rickshaws be made easier along with policy provisions for EV driving licenses, EV permits for retrofitted autos, and raising awareness of EVs.
