Sector 17 is one of the largest and most popular commercial hubs in the city Chandigarh which is considered as the heart of the city. According to the analysis and data found sector 17 is extremely gendered biased due to many factors which include factors like ownership that is majorly male dominant, the issue of proper sitting in the entire plaza, the problem of improper lighting throughout the plaza, and the plaza being majorly inactive despite of it’s enormous area. The vast area creates dead ends and isolated spaces which caters the movements and activities of men and restrict women from proper usage and articulation throughout the plaza. To change such norms of the plaza that limited movements and activities of women, I intend to make the plaza more active by attracting women in the plaza by creating purpose for them to visit and making spaces that would allow them to enjoy the public plaza and not just restrict their visit to shopping and food. The design is completely based on the analysis and existing facts. The approach was creating inclusive and engaging spaces that involves several factors like including designing spaces that are accessible, safe, and comfortable for everyone, providing equitable resources and opportunities, encouraging diverse perspectives and voices, and promoting respectful and inclusive behaviors and attitudes. It also involves challenging and addressing gender-based discrimination and biases, and promoting gender equality and empowerment.
