Developing Surat as a Resilient Compact City

The most crucial tool for urban area development and growth facilitation is the statutory development plan. Hence, the primary focus of this studio is on developing core competencies in creating a development plan for an urban area. The proposal is beyond a traditional planning and zoning, based on a "predict and provide" approach to develop a plan that is resilient to withstand future uncertainties caused by external economic growth, market demand, and other factors. The focus has been on a market driven approach for zoning. While some areas need regulated norms for the betterment of the city and environment, the built form should have a liberal approach as per economy.
