Simulating lean-production management principles for construction

In traditional construction most managerial attention seems to be focused on project delivery, project management. The whole topic of “production management” is rarely considered or explored, yet the whole purpose of construction is to produce the built environment, infrastructure, buildings, etc; adapted to the construction industry under the term “Lean Construction”. Currently, concepts and technologies from Industry 4.0 are mainly transforming the manufacturing industry and only few applications have been implemented to construction and its connected supply chains. This study shows how new technologies like Building Information Modeling connected with Virtual and Augmented Reality using the project simulation game Villego® with students and industrial personnel’s for implementation of production management processes on construction sites. ·       Tasks: In the first round of the study the will focus on traditional approach of system based on CPM (Critical Path method ) applied on construction projects. ·       In Round 2, the LPS and Industry 4.0 technologies will be applied. And identification of distortion of the results through learning curve effects. The developed BIM-AR and VR models and real-time result measurements of construction progress will be measured. ·       Developing framework conditions/KPIs of 1st round and 2nd round for simulations and comparing the results and validating the results of the project simulation game with the industry personnel’s. ·       Creating final portfolio-report and transforming it in the form of paper
