CONFLICT MANAGEMENT FOR URBAN STREET VENDING - Street vendors form a part of the massive unorganised Entrepreneurs in the city. They serve a huge number of clients from the middle and lower income classes and make important contributions to the economy. Inspite of this, street vending is regarded as an unwelcome use of public space. Since they are not welcome and add to the stress of the space demands in the city, they face frequent evictions from their selling areas, they need to pay bribe, they have lack of access to various government institutions, a lack of social security, and many other hurdles. Many policies and laws have been adopted in cities such as Ahmedabad to protect the livelihoods of street sellers, yet the conflict between vendors and government continues. This study focuses on current conflict handling mechanisms and would like to find out if alternate ways can be found to address this issue.
