Strategies for effective utilization of the treated wastewater in Million Plus City in India
A large number of Indians face high to extreme water stress, according to a recent report by the government’s policy think tank, the NITI Aayog. India’s dependence on an increasingly erratic monsoon for its water requirements increases this challenge. Climate change is likely to exacerbate this pressure. At the same time the wastewater / used water generated in our cities are of huge quantities, which can provide alternative supplies (after required treatment) for potable and non-potable uses to enhance water security, sustainability, and resilience.
The primary objective of this directed research project is therefore to explore the strategies for effective utilization of the treated waste water in a case city. The case city will be selected based on the severity of water stress in the region and relevance of the study in the context of the case city.
