Smart Urban Governance for sustainable water and saniation infrastructure using the Blockchain Technolgy
The 4th Industrial Revolution is where the boundaries of the physical, digital, and biological worlds merge. This revolution has the technological advancement in areas of Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, 3D Printing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Blockchain, and many more.
At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting during January 2018, Prime Minister of India, launched a Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) in India. The centre would aim to bring together the government and business leaders to pilot various emerging technology policies. Drones, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Blockchain are the first three project areas selected. NITI Aayog to coordinate this partnership with various ministries on behalf of the government.
The World Economic Forum has entered partnership with the Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra governments for new initiatives. Initial efforts is focused on two emerging technological areas: 1) Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and 2) Blockchain and distributed ledger technology.
With the convergence of the physical, digital, and biological worlds, new technologies will enable citizens to engage with their governments, voice their opinions, increase the accountability and transparency of the services delivered. This decentralization will change their approach to public engagement and policymaking. Governments embracing these technological advancements with open arms will survive while the ones which will not evolve will face troubled times.
