Feasibility study on electrification of urban freight vehicles: A case of Ahmedabad
Urban freight transport is a vital component of the urban ecosystem. It is a crucial component of the transportation supply chain as a whole. Typically, two-wheelers, small commercial vehicles (SCVs), and medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M/ HCVs) are used for such movement, depending on the number of goods carried, the distance travelled, and the service area to be served. However, urban freight vehicle movement relates to negative externalities. In India, diesel-powered SCVs are the primary emitters and suppliers of greenhouse gases. In India, LCVs produce 17.33 grams per kilometre of particulate matter yearly. E-freight is the optimal approach for overcoming the negative externalities caused by the usage of fossil fuels in urban freight. Using Ahmedabad as a case study, this research proposal seeks to investigate the viability of electrifying urban freight vehicles.
