Policy brief on bus-stop infrastructure asset management and financing
CEEW’s 2019 report on “How urban India moves?”, poor bus-stop infrastructure remains the top reported barrier in the access to public transport, especially to women and other vulnerable user groups. Bus-stop with universal access and sensitive design remain a critical component for users/ potential users of buses. In Indian cities most of the bus-stops are provisioned and maintained by ULBs, and owing to lack of funds and finances available, they remain in dire need improvement/ upgradation. In order to generate a robust financing/ infrastructure selection model for ULB and operator agencies, CEEW has carried out Bus-stop audit surveys the cities Lucknow and Kanpur. This data has to be analyzed and shall be used to create an issue/policy brief to inform ULBs on stop infrastructure management and financing.
