G1_P4_In-situ Upgrade of Slums from Informal to Formal

With many existing settlements still lack access to basic infrastructure. The slums on high-value land have undertaken in situ redevelopment, and the remaining gone for in-situ slum up gradation. This sub strategy focuses on upgrading the physical infrastructure with minimum disruption to existing conditions and improving livelihoods. Eviction and forced relocation show a lack of awareness of the socio cultural processes present in slum settlements. The most economical and socially acceptable way to improve the standard of living in cities is to provide basic services to everyone. Slum upgrading also takes the prior investments made by the households in their homes. Different forms of tenure security are recommended to entice residents to invest and gradually upgrade. Furthermore, communal tenure and involvement through a public-private partnership are recommended because settlements on private land cannot be given a lease. With the help of the GDCR intervention, communities can formalize and enhance their surroundings, which enables them to use their homes as a source of money and to upgrade. The capital investment plan has been created to comprehend how the money will be managed during execution, and a framework for slum upgrading has been established.
